A woman killed in a head-on car crash in Queensland has been identified as a mother of eight children with one of her sons speaking about the family’s heartbreak.

Roza Abebwa, 51, died after the Ford Focus she was travelling in collided with a blue Ford Falcon ute on School Rd at Logan Reserve, south of Brisbane, about 9pm on Saturday.

Abebwa was visiting family in Yarrabilba from her home in Victoria for the Easter holidays.

Her 28-year-old niece, from Goodna, was behind the wheel. The young woman’s two-year-old daughter was also in the car, strapped into a child seat in the back.

The driver suffered injuries to her legs, hips and back and was taken to Logan Hospital, while the toddler was treated at the scene.

Abebwa’s son, Rashidi Edward, said the family was struggling to come to terms with her sudden death.

“We just couldn’t believe it,” he told 7NEWS.

“It’s horrible… you don’t expect something like this to happen.”

Police allege the ute, driven by a 17-year-old girl, crossed onto the wrong side of the road before the crash.

Several occupants in the ute were ejected on impact and suffered non-life-threatening injuries.

The 17-year-old driver was taken to hospital, where police conducted blood tests.

The vehicle is believed to have had no number plates and may have been unregistered.

Authorities are examining whether the ute had been involved in a large hooning event nearby earlier that night.

Hundreds of drivers and spectators were filmed on the streets of Logan with footage showing people hanging out of car windows and blocking roads.

Authorities say the gathering was already on their radar.

The Ford Falcon is believed to have been stolen from a Park Ridge home, 30 minutes south of Brisbane’s CBD.

CCTV from the alleged theft showed one offender armed with a knife during the incident.

The couple who own the Ford Falcon told 7NEWS of their shock on Monday.

“We didn’t even know it was gone,” they said.

“To find out it was (allegedly) involved in something like this… it’s just devastating.”

Skid marks stretched hundreds of metres down the street where the event took place on Saturday night.

But frustrated locals say this isn’t a one off.

“It’s every night,” local James Coop said.

“It’s all the time. Like the minute the sun goes down they come out.”

Witness Linton Bewley said he was overtaken by the ute shortly before the crash.

“We didn’t hear them coming. We just saw them shoot straight past the driver’s side,” he said.

“Next thing, it’s just bang, bang, bang, bang.”

Queensland Police Acting Inspector Peter Venz described the crash as a “tragic and avoidable incident”.

“Look, it’s all good fun until a tragic incident occurs,” he said.

“This is obviously a tragic situation that really could have been avoided by just following the road rules and being considerate of other road users.”

Later that night, a social media post believed to be from organisers said the meet had been cancelled.

“Tonight is being called off, too red hot and too many incidents that can’t be shared yet. Go home and be safe,” the post read.

A second post sent “thoughts and prayers” to Abebwa’s loved ones.

“I’m so angry. I’m so angry. I’m so angry. It’s my mum. She was the most innocent woman,” Abebwa’s son said.

“She took selflessness to a whole different level.

“Mum was literally my best friend.

“The pain that this situation has left us with today, tomorrow and the day we all leave this earth is indescribable.”

The Forensic Crash Unit is continuing investigations.

No charges have been laid.
