A romance plot line on I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! has spectacularly failed.

An insider has told Daily Mail that producers attempted to manufacture a jungle romance between Tammy Hembrow’s ex Matt Zukowski and Mia Fevola – only to see it fall flat.

A source told Daily Mail that the 26-year-old daughter of AFL legend Brendan Favola was just ‘not interested’ in Matt.

‘They were meant to be this season’s flirtation storyline – it was a deliberate casting move, but it just didn’t land,’ the insider said.

Producers were hoping for sparks to fly between Matt and Mia, who have both been through high-profile break-ups in the last year.

The insider said Mia, who confirmed she was single in July after her split from long-term beau Bass Miller, was not ‘naive’.

‘She grew up around her dad, Brendan Fevola, and she’s heard everything,’ the source explained, apparently referencing the footy star’s high-profile affair with model Laura Bingle 20 years ago.

‘Her parents raised their daughters to keep their eyes wide open, especially with certain types of guys.

‘She’s been warned about boys like Matt and the second she clocked his vibe, she knew what he was about.’

Meanwhile, newly divorced and single Matt, who has described his short-lived marriage to Tammy on the show as ‘scary’, had opportunities created by producers to ‘work his magic’.

The source said Mia and Matt spent time together away from the cast in waiting areas and in transfers to different locations, and they weren’t blindfolded while travelling.

‘There were moments where Matt had a chance to work his magic…It was like the producers were handing them private time on a platter,’ the source explained.

‘Mia wasn’t rude, she just wasn’t interested. Matt would try to flirt, and it would kind of… die.’

Mia’s lack of interest had producers wondering whether the dark-haired beauty had a secret boyfriend back home.

‘They couldn’t figure out why she wouldn’t engage with it.’

After failing to make an impression on Mia, producers thought they picked up ‘chemistry’ between the Love Island star and JJJ’s Concetta Caristo.

Producers elected to drop the romance narrative after their plans for Matt and Mia sank, with the source declaring that the influencer ‘just didn’t fancy him’.

Mia’s lack of connection with the hunky charmer apparently left Matt surprised.

‘Matt came in thinking he’d do well in the jungle,’ said the source.

‘But the romance angle? That was supposed to be his lane, and Mia just didn’t give him anything.

‘When you take the dating element out of the Love Island guy, it does take away his advantage.’
