Pregnant Cardi B fiercely defends using formula over breastfeeding: ‘Pumping takes your whole f**king day’
Cardi B is pushing back against the stigma surrounding formula feeding as she prepares to welcome her fourth child.
During a candid livestream on X Spaces on Thursday, the Grammy-winning rapper, 33, explained why she’s become an outspoken advocate for formula.
‘Breastfeeding also takes a lot of time and some women gotta go straight to work to feed their families and take care of their kids and s—,’ she said. ‘They can’t spend time just sitting down. Pumping takes literally your whole f**king day.’
She continued: ‘Pumping is not something easy to do. There’s women that gotta go to work. There’s women that, they just have to depend on the formula.’
Earlier this week, the performer revealed she teamed up with Bobbie, an organic infant formula company, as its new Chief Confidence Officer, to help empower parents to make the feeding choices that work best for them.
Through the brand’s ‘The B is for Bobbie’ campaign, Cardi hopes to spark more open conversations about the realities of balancing motherhood and work.
Cardi is currently expecting a baby with NFL player Stefon Diggs.
Although this is their first child together, the star already shares Kulture, 7, Wave, 4, and Blossom, 13 months, with her estranged husband Offset.
In a recent interview with Vogue, Cardi opened up about her own struggles with breastfeeding and the pressure mothers face to ‘do it all.’
‘It took me two hours just to produce two ounces of milk,’ she said. ‘Sometimes your baby wants to eat in two hours and sometimes your baby wants to eat in 45 minutes, and it takes me two hours just to produce two ounces of milk. It almost made me feel like, does it make me less of a woman if I can’t produce as much milk as the next woman? I don’t think people understand how frustrating it is.’
Her own challenging experiences inspired her to change that narrative and remind other parents they are not ‘bad’ moms for giving their babies formula.
‘You know what’s bad? Not feeding your kid,’ she told the publication.
She also praised Bobbie for ‘always fighting for better care for Black and Brown women’ and ‘fighting every other week at the White House’ to make a difference. While Cardi plans to hit the road again in February 2026, shortly after giving birth, she’s quick to clarify that no mother should feel pressured to do the same.
‘I don’t want people thinking that I’m just heading back to work; this is my coping mechanism,’ she explained. ‘I don’t want everybody thinking it’s the same for them, and I don’t want the system to think because I did it everyone should. Having your first baby really rocks your world. It is a big deal. And it is hard. And it is life-changing.’
Last month, the star discussed her plans to stay in shape while touring amid her fourth pregnancy.
‘My second baby, [he’s] too big — he broke me,’ Cardi said on The Breakfast Club. ‘The first one, I had to stitch.’
Bewildered co-host Loren Lorosa then asked, ‘Stitch what?’ before Cardi answered, ‘The cat,’ in reference to her vagina. She went on to say that her vagina ‘ripped’ when she gave birth.
Cardi, born Belcalis Almánzar, explained that ‘now things are just a little different and I’m more experienced’ after having three kids.
And the rapper said that after having her youngest child just one year ago, she expects the birth of her fourth child to come with ease.
The Bodak Yellow hitmaker shared that she worked out up until the final weeks of her third pregnancy, resulting in a quick recovery after welcoming her daughter.
She stated, ‘Like, the third one was so easy, so I’m expecting this one to be as easy as well, in the name of the Lord. That’s why I’m like, “I just did it last year. I can do it [again].”‘
