In Bridgerton Season 4, Episode 8, Queen Charlotte throws a ball in honor of Lady Danbury, who is departing soon to visit her ancestral home. While the invites are somewhat petty, given that they are hardly readable, the ball is as magnificent.

During the ball, we get a glimpse of their friendship. After Mrs. Mondrich entertains the Queen with Sophie and Benedict’s white lie, the two can’t help but laugh about how it all went. Not only is the Queen amused, but she seems to, at last, approve of Danbury choosing Mrs. Mondrich as her lady-in-waiting.

The Queen states how it is the best thing to happen all season, but Danbury reminds her that she has won her wager against Penelope Bridgerton, who had claimed at the start of the season that Benedict wouldn’t be settling down. The two laugh again and hold hands in an emotional moment, as Charlotte recalls all the fun times they have had together.

The moment nearly moves them to tears, although they control and tell each other that they will miss the other. The ballroom scene reflects how close they are despite their station and that their friendship is greater than their social standing.

At the start of Bridgerton Season 4, we witnessed Lady Danbury taking permission from the Queen to retreat from the social season and be given permission to travel to her ancestral home. However, her friend outright denies the request.

Eventually, Danbury takes back her request when Charlotte breaks down in front of her, scared of being left alone should George die. But the Queen has a change of heart thanks to Lady Whistledown. In this season, Penelope Bridgerton wants to quit being Whistledown because she is no longer a wallflower.

While the Queen treats her request the same way as she treated her friend’s, Penelope comes back to appeal. She tells Her Majesty that Whistledown to her is the same as the palace is to the Queen; it keeps her trapped. And the existence of Whistledown keeps the people trapped. She asks the Queen to give society a little reprieve and agency over their lives.

Her Majesty agrees, and when Penelope comes back to visit with her final issue, she does something no one expected. The Queen quietly gives Danbury a knowing look and allows her to leave the city as they both are moved to tears.

Will Lady Danbury Be in Bridgerton Season 5?

While the Bridgerton Season 4 finale featured the ton saying goodbye to Lady Danbury, she will still remain a part of Season 5. In an interview with TheWrap, showrunner Jess Brownell confirmed that Adjoa Andoh will be back in the next season.

Brownell stated that Danbury is a “big part of Season 5, when she does eventually come back.” Moreover, the change was introduced to shape up the dynamic and examine relationships in which there’s a power imbalance as part of the theme of this season.

Now that Danbury and the queen have been through their conflict this season, I think going forward, the queen is going to be able to see Danbury much more as a peer. It allows us to put Alice in sort of the service lady in waiting role in storylines, and allow Danbury to just be an actual friend to the Queen.

Moreover, Alice Mondrich will soon be going up the ranks and will continue to be part of the storyline. As for a possible spin-off, for now, Brownell is focused on the eight Bridgerton siblings and their romance.
