A DoorDash driver who smelled a foul odor at his delivery destination led to the discovery of a woman’s body buried in towels and blankets, police say.

Officers responding to a Charlotte, N.C., residence on Tuesday, March 10, found Evelin Carolina Enamorado-Cisnado and pronounced her deceased at the scene, the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department said in a statement last week.

Lhis Birito Costa, 23, was arrested the following day in connection with the killing, per the statement.

According to court documents cited by WCNC, a DoorDash delivery driver who came to the home called police.

Enamorado-Cisnado’s family said in a Facebook post that the driver smelled a foul odor.

The driver was allegedly told there was a body inside the residence, per the court documents cited by WCNC, but it wasn’t immediately clear who told the driver this information.

Responding officers found Enamorado-Cisnado’s decomposing body wrapped in blankets and towels inside a closet, the documents stated.

Costa and Enamorado-Cisnado had dated, and the suspect allegedly told police she shot the victim after learning she was in a relationship with someone else, according to prosecutors and court documents cited by WSOC-TV and WCNC.

In a Facebook post mourning Enamorado-Cisnado, her aunt requested donations to help the family send her body to Honduras.

“A harmless girl and who didn’t mess with anyone and it hurts so much in my heart,” Guadalupe Cisneros wrote in the post, “and how that miserable woman could take her life without mercy and just because my niece didn’t want to be with her anymore.”

Costa has been charged with murder, per the statement from Charlotte-Mecklenburg police. Costa appeared in court on Thursday, per WSOC-TV.

It wasn’t immediately clear if she has entered a plea or retained an attorney to speak on her behalf. A search for her case in online court records did not immediately generate any information.
