Norfolk Police announced yesterday that a 15-year-old boy had been charged with attempted murder and possession of a knife on school premises.

The victim of the stabbing was a teenage girl who was rushed to hospital with minor injuries.

She has since been discharged.

Armed police responded to reports on Wednesday of a stabbing at the school on Laundry Lane around 10.20am.

Laundry Lane was cordoned off while a police investigation was carried out.

The boy, who cannot be named because of his age, was arrested near the scene of the crime and taken to Wymondham Police Investigation Centre for questioning.

Police confirmed the teenager is being held in custody ahead of an appearance set for this morning at Norwich Youth Court.

It added: “Officers will continue to conduct reassurance patrols both at the school and in the area over the coming days.”

The mixed secondary school, which received a “Good” rating in its last Ofsted report, went “into lockdown” following the attack.

Thorpe St Andrew is an 11-18 school, plus sixth form, around three miles east of Norwich.
