The Emergency Response

Cleveland Police were alerted to a property at approximately 1:30 p.m. on Thursday following concerns for the welfare of an infant. Despite the rapid arrival of three ambulance crews and a clinical team leader, the baby girl was pronounced d*ceased due to injuries sustained from a dog bite.

A 31-year-old woman was also transported to the hospital for treatment of an arm injury, also resulting from a bite. Armed officers were deployed to the scene, where they neutralized one animal that had escaped onto the street. A second animal, initially recovered by police, has also been destroyed.

Legal Updates and Police Appeals

45-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of being in charge of a dog dangerously out of control causing injury resulting in d*ath. Following formal questioning, he has been released on conditional bail as detectives continue their inquiries.

Chief Superintendent Rachel Stockdale, head of local policing, stated:

“Our thoughts continue to be with the child’s family following this tragic and distressing incident. We request that their privacy is respected during this difficult time.”

The Status of the Animals

While neighbors described the animals as “pocket bully-type” dogs or crossbreeds, specialist officers have assessed the dogs and determined they were not of a prohibited breed. Witnesses reported seeing one of the dogs “running up and down the street” in a state of distress immediately following the incident inside the home.
