MARRIED At First Sight Australia viewers were up in arms over a late-arrival groom who they accused of “homophobia and misogyny” in his debut episode.

Fans threatened to switch off after meeting Tyson, 30, who voiced his views on wanting a “submissive, feminine woman” and being bothered by gay people “pushing” their sexuality in his face.

“I am very black and white and open with sharing my opinions with other people,” said Tyson, who describes himself as “regimented, conservative, and unafraid to stand by his beliefs, even when they’re polarising”.

When asked about same-sex marriage he replied: “That doesn’t bother me too much. What bothers me if it gets pushed in my face.

“I don’t like when gay guys come up to me. I’m not gay. That’s on you guys. Whatever you do behind closed doors..”

His comments sparked anger, with one writing: “Tyson is confusing masculine with misogyny.”

Another said sarcastically: “Wonder why Tyson is single…women can’t join the army, clearly homophobic, and wants a maid.”

One added: “The problem isn’t the fact that Tyson doesn’t want a career woman. It’s the fact that he dosen’t seem to want a woman who likes….. anything really.”

“Tyson, the Australian Andrew Tate?,” asked someone else.

Another added: “Ok ok Tyson and Stephanie can we just go separate ways now and stop wasting our time. Brook already wasted our time and we need our time back.”

Someone else wrote: “Tyson is looking for a pet not a wife.”

Tyson’s views appeared to already raise red flags with his bride Stephanie.

He was upset she was two years older than him and described her as coming across as “woke”.

In a preview for Wednesday night’s show, the narrator describes the couple’s honeymoon as “going from bad to worse” as Tyson blames his negative experience on Stephanie.

Speaking out after the show aired in Australia, Tyson said: “I knew I was going to be the villain.

“The producers told me I was going to be one of the most controversial characters they’ve ever had. So when someone tells you that, you go along with it.”

He insists he should have said he wanted a “traditional, not subservient woman”, adding: “I don’t want a dog.”

“If I had my time again, I would do things very differently,” he said.

“I hated watching myself.”
