Prepare to wait a little bit longer for these shows.

Throughout 2025, there were more than a few Netflix shows that either ended or were canceled. Obviously, canceled shows like The Recruit, The Waterfront, Boots, and more definitely won’t be back on the streaming service this year with new seasons, likewise with Squid Game, You, Cobra Kai, and Stranger Things. For the first time, we don’t have new seasons of the former to anticipate.

Netflix also renewed a bunch of its hit original series in 2025, like Virgin River, My Life with the Walter Boys, Monster, Running Point, The Four Seasons, Forever, and plenty more fan-favorites that will be back before the end of 2026. As with every new year on Netflix, we won’t be without something familiar to binge-watch on top of all the new shows set to premiere, too.

However, just because Netflix renewed a large number of original series in the past year doesn’t necessarily mean that all of them will debut those new seasons in 2026. Sometimes star-studded, high-concept shows take a long time to film and prep for release, leaving us waiting well over a year for new episodes. That’s going to be the case with these three highly anticipated titles.

Wednesday season 3

If there’s one thing Wednesday Addams likes to do, it’s move at her own pace and keep us waiting. After the two part drop of Wednesday season 2 in August and September 2025, Netflix quickly announced the season 3 renewal, but there’s almost zero possibility that we will be returning to Nevermore in 2026. While season 2 had to contend with delays from the strikes on top of the long production timeline, season 3’s production timeline will be just as lengthy.

According to reports, Wednesday season 3 begins filming in February 2026 in Ireland. Considering season 2 began filming in May 2024 and wrapped in December 2024, we shouldn’t expect season 3 to complete filming until at least September 2026, which effectively counts out a release date in the same year. Instead, the third season will likely drop sometime in 2027, hopefully sooner rather than later. At least this time we won’t be waiting for nearly three years!

Untamed season 2

Netflix’s crime drama series Untamed was perhaps one of the biggest surprises of 2025. Intended to be a miniseries, the Eric Bana mystery thriller captivated audience in such a big way that Netflix opted to renew the show for season 2 and bring Kyle Turner back for another National Park whodunit. The only downside to one of the year’s best new shows getting renewed for a second season is that there’s a pretty good chance that it won’t be back as soon we would have liked.

Sadly, we can pretty much count out a 2026 release for Untamed season 2 based on the rumored production timeline. The new season has been suggested to begin filming in February 2026 in Hawaii and wrap by June 2026. Sure, that’s a pretty quick turnaround for filming since the show doesn’t have any major special effects, but post-production could still take the rest of the year. It would be great if Netflix could prove us wrong, but we’re not expecting Untamed’s return until early 2027.

Stranger Things spinoff

After five seasons and nearly 10 years, one of Netflix’s biggest shows of all time came to an end on the very last day of 2025. Stranger Things became a cultural movement, which made it an obvious contender for franchising. An animated spinoff series called Stranger Things: Tales from ’85 will be released on Netflix in 2026, but the long-teased live-action spinoff series from the Duffer Brothers certainly will not be coming out this year for one very important reason.

We don’t know what it is yet! The Duffer Brothers have been cagey about revealing the concept for the spinoff series, but we’re a long time away from actually be able to watch the idea that have cooked up onscreen. So far, it’s been revealed that it will be totally separate from Stranger Things, but since we don’t have an official announcement, there’s no reason to believe that Netflix will quickly follow up the ending of the original series with its live-action spinoff in 2026.
