On Friday, Lauren Greene Sanders said she “forever will be so proud” of Greene while sharing her mom’s video announcing her plan to step down from her post in January.
“One of a kind Congresswoman,” Greene Sanders wrote on X. “110% on America First, American Only.”

A day later, Greene Sanders shrugged off speculation that Greene’s resignation was driven, at least in part, by a desire to run for president in 2028.
“This is a lie,” she wrote on X in response to a Time article that cited sources close to the Georgia lawmaker who suggested she’d set her sights on the White House.

On Sunday, Greene herself also reacted to Time’s reporting with similar sentiments.
“That’s not journalism, it’s called lying,” she wrote in a lengthy post on X alongside a screenshot of the article. “I’m not running for President and never said I wanted to and have only laughed about it when anyone would mention it.”

Greene rose to national prominence in 2020 as an outspoken supporter of Trump and his Make America Great Again movement. In recent weeks, however, she’s stunned her constituents by breaking with the president over his handling of this year’s government shutdown, which ended November 12 after 43 days, and his reluctance to release classified documents related to late sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.
In her resignation statement, Greene alluded to the battle over the Epstein files and also called out a number of GOP lawmakers, including House Speaker Mike Johnson of Louisiana.
“Standing up for American women who were raped at 14, trafficked and used by rich powerful men, should not result in me being called a traitor and threatened by the President of the United States, whom I fought for,” she wrote.

Elsewhere in her statement, Greene claimed many establishment Republicans embraced by the Trump administration since his 2024 reelection “secretly hate him.”
Not surprisingly, Trump publicly pulled his support of Greene after she began criticizing him publicly and responded to her resignation by again deeming her a “traitor.”
Though Greene’s spat with the president and disillusionment with MAGA have won praise from some Democrats, Greene has denied that she’s “suddenly changed.”

“I’m doubling down on how much I love this country and its people,” she told Vanity Fair this month. “I’m radically doubling down, to the point where it doesn’t matter who I disagree with. I’m disagreeing with my own side.”
