More than 24 hours after police say 18-year-old Jonathan Adams was found with a gunshot wound to the head

His mother said she still doesn’t know what happened to her son.

“I want to know what happened,” said the victim’s mother, who did not want to give her name. “I want to know who killed my son. I want to know what happened. This is hard.”

Police said shots rang out at around 10:45 a.m. on Thursday inside of a home on 108th Avenue in Jamaica, Queens.

Upon arrival, police were told a teen had been shot in the head. Police said he was taken to Jamaica Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

According to officials, no arrests have been made, and the investigation remains ongoing.

NYPD, SWAT officers and detectives could be seen at the crime scene following the shooting, but as of Friday afternoon, Adams’ mother said she has not heard from police.

“I haven’t seen [any] police yet,” she said. “I’m still waiting for the police to come. No police come to us.”

Wilfred Anderson, who lives in the residence, claims he found Adams clinging to life on the ground in his 2nd floor apartment.

“But he wasn’t dead. He was still talking,” Anderson said. “He kept saying, ‘They shot me, they shot me,’ before he was gone.”

Anderson’s landlord said he’s been having trouble with the tenant and his apartment.

“Notice that people were standing there, and they’re hanging around there, and there are certain-looking people and intoxicated,” Zubair Chaudhry of Zubair Realty said.

Chaudhry says he observed an agent of the nonprofit that pays Anderson’s rent chastising him for his behavior.

“And he was telling him, ‘Get out, we give you [a] place to live and you are destroying everything,’” Chaudhry said. “And he was saying, I have proof of everything. I will go to the court.”

Sources said Adams was a student at Martin Van Buren High School in Queens. His mother, who said Adams was a foster baby before she adopted him, said he was having challenges at the time of his death and doesn’t believe he ever got the help he needed.

“He was having mental challenges, and he comes and goes, comes and goes,” the victim’s mother said. “When it comes to structure, he just does what he wants to do.”

Despite his challenges, Adams’ mother says he loved to dance, play the drums and play the organ.

Records from the city’s Department of Buildings show multiple complaints by neighbors about the home where the victim was shot.

Some of the Department of Building complaints were from neighbors who suspected the home where the crime scene is located had been illegally converted to hold multiple apartments.
