Rodney McRedmond, a retired pilot who worked for the charity for decades, has pleaded guilty to an unlawful sexual relationship with a child under 17.
A retired Royal Flying Doctor Service (RFDS) pilot — once one of the organisation’s longest‑serving employees — has confessed to shocking child sex crimes.
Rodney McRedmond landed at Adelaide Airport for the final time in 2015, receiving a traditional water salute to mark the end of his 34‑year career.
But the 78‑year‑old, once known as Rocket‑Rod, is now behind bars after pleading guilty to maintaining an unlawful sexual relationship with a child under the age of 17.
Court records show the offending occurred at a location in Adelaide’s inner southern suburbs.
The victim, who cannot be identified, was under the age of 14.
McRedmond was widely regarded within the RFDS and worked rescuing people during the 2005 Black Tuesday bushfires.
He has written a letter of apology, which the victim has chosen not to accept.

7NEWS spoke to McRedmond’s wife on Thursday afternoon, who said she was supporting him.
McRedmond is due back in court next month for sentencing.
