Retiring country music star John Michael Montgomery might be ending his music career, but he won’t be winding down completely, as he now has a new job.
The 60-year-old singer, who is now a first-time grandfather, recently took to Instagram to show off the newborn, captioning the post, “I am a Grandpa! Say hello to Charlotte!” Over a year ago, John announced he was calling it quits, reminding fans at the beginning of 2025 that this year was his last rodeo.
“Happy New Year!” John penned. “We had a great 2024, thanks to everyone who came out to the shows. Looking forward to seeing you next year as I kick off my ROAD TO HOME farewell tour. Wishing you all a blessed 2025!”

John initially made the announcement on Facebook in 2024.
“I have decided to wind down my touring career over this year and 2025,” he wrote at the time. “It’s been a wonderful run for me from the beginning over 30 years ago in 1992 when my first song ‘Life’s A Dance’ was released to radio.”
John’s career has been a long one and very successful, earning him a nice hunk of cash. According to Celebrity Net Worth, his net worth is around $20 million, which allows him to retire comfortably.
His first three albums, Life’s A Dance, Kickin’ It Up, and John Michael Montgomery, reportedly were multi-platinum selling records, and over the course of his career, he sold more than 16 million albums.
Some of John’s number-one hit songs on Billboard are, I Love the Way You Love Me, I Swear, and I Can Love You Like That.
While he won’t be touring after this year, John reportedly is open to making occasional appearances, which means he might not be completely done with music.
“I’m sure there will be some situations where I just need to do a show here and there because I’ll miss that too much,” he reportedly shared in a statement. “But I just feel the time has come to say goodbye to the road life.”
