Here’s everything you need to know about the five key F1 figures who have been knighted as part of the New Year’s Honours list, and Christian Horner’s journey towards the prestigious title.
Lewis Hamilton: The iconic British driver was knighted in 2021, a recognition that arrived just days after his contentious loss of the World Championship title to Max Verstappen. Currently, Hamilton shares the record for the most F1 Drivers’ Championship titles with Michael Schumacher, both having won seven times.
Jack Brabham: This esteemed Australian racer was a three-time World Champion during his impressive 15-year career in the sport. Nine years after hanging up his helmet in 1970, he was officially bestowed with a Knight Bachelor.

Jackie Stewart: Born in Scotland, this champion driver bagged three World Championships during his racing career, which ended in 1973. He was knighted 28 years after retiring, becoming the third ex-driver to receive this honour. The well-liked Brit continues to be a familiar face on the grid today and is often seen during Martin Brundle’s grid walks.Ron Dennis: The McLaren team principal, was knighted not primarily for his achievements in motorsport, but for his significant contributions to industry and charity. This honour acknowledges his work in founding the Podium Analytics organisation and the Tommy’s charity.
Christian Horner, the former Red Bull team boss, was included in the New Year’s Honours list in 2024 and was awarded a CBE for his services to motorsport. This esteemed Commander of the Order of the British Empire award positions him just one step away from a full knighthood.
The 52-year-old was let go by his previous team in July after two decades of service, but he is aiming for a comeback to the paddock in 2026.
