🚨 BREAKING UPDATE — LYNETTE HOOKER’S STEPDAD SPEAKS OUT AFTER BAHAMAS SEARCH TAKES A HEARTBREAKING TURN
(NewsNation) — The stepfather of missing Michigan woman Lynette Hooker says he’s not discouraged after the U.S. Coast Guard concluded its search efforts in the Bahamas without recovering her body.
“No, I’m not disappointed,” Bill Hamlet told NewsNation’s “Drop Dead Serious” podcast. “In fact, I’m happy they were there because it shows that they believe, like we believe, that there was foul play.”
Hamlet said he never expected investigators to find evidence because he believed Lynette Hooker’s husband, Brian Hooker, may have used the location as a diversion.
“I know Brian well enough to know that if he did that, if he had a position, he was using that as a diversion,” Hamlet said. “I really didn’t expect them to find anything, to be honest.”
Family says answers needed after Bahamas search
Despite that, Hamlet said the family needs answers.
“I truly need for it to be over because it’s impacting. Darlene doesn’t see it, but it’s truly impacting her,” he said. “To cry every hour or so to see something, and just start crying, or to have a thought, or see something on TV that causes you an emotional outburst. So it’s just very taxing.”
“He not only took one life, he really took a bunch of lives. The impact he’s had on Darlene and Carly is immeasurable,” Hamlet said.

What happened to Lynette Hooker?
Lynette Hooker disappeared while sailing in the Bahamas with Brian Hooker. He told authorities that she fell overboard and was swept away by bad weather while the couple was traveling in a dinghy.
Coast Guard’s law enforcement arm continues Lynette Hooker probe
Brian Hooker was arrested and then released in the Bahamas, and a source told NewsNation the case is being investigated as a possible homicide.
Lynette Hooker’s mother, Darlene Hamlet, said she still wants to believe that the incident was an accident.
“I really believe, or at least maybe I just want to believe, that this was an accident,” she said. “To think that he would do this on purpose is just more than I want to believe. And now I think he’s being cowardly, and everybody deserves more than that.”
Will Brian Hooker go off the grid if arrest looms?
Darlene Hamlet also revealed that Brian Hooker had long talked about wanting to live off the grid.
“One thing Brian always said was that he wanted to be off the grid. He didn’t want anybody to tell him what to do or where to go,” she said.
Asked whether he believes Brian Hooker would attempt to disappear or flee if an arrest appeared imminent, Bill Hamlet said he has heard that Brian Hooker’s brother owns a remote cabin in the mountains of California with no electricity or phone service.
“Very few people know he even has it,” Hamlet said. “It’s a getaway place that they talk about being off the grid, so to speak. That’s the only thing I can think of. Anything else, he’s probably going to need a passport.”
