GOOD Morning Britain’s biggest stars fought back tears yesterday as ITV Daytime tore down its famous sets at Television Centre as it moves to a new home.

The broadcaster’s new look schedule comes into effect on Monday with GMB extended by half an hour, Lorraine slashed by 30 minutes and This Morning and Loose Women running as usual. At least 220 jobs have been lost as part of the money-saving measure. GMB will now be filmed at ITN headquarters in Central London while the other daytime shows will be filmed at The H Club in Covent Garden.

Today, screen stars and crew gathered for an emotional debrief and there were lots of tears as the group reflected on the end of an era.

A source said: “It’s terribly sad for the whole team. There are staff who have worked for ITV Daytime for years – from GMTV to Daybreak to GMB – also on Lorraine, Loose Women and This Morning.

“Now the teams have been split up and relocated and it’s the end of an era. Many people who weren’t ready to leave yet are saying goodbye forever.”

Presenter Kate Garraway perched on the studio floor while Susanna Reid and Laura Tobin stood behind the famous GMB desk to listen to a colleague speak.

Some staff raised a glass of bubbly to new beginnings and there was lots of chitter chatter once the formalities were done and dusted.

The insider continued: “There’s a lot of love for Television Centre and it’s hitting home that it will no longer be where these teams go to work every day.

“To see the sets pulled apart is devastating. Especially at this time of the year as well! The final broadcast from Television Centre was a very emotional one.

“Everyone gathered in the studio to raise a toast to the shows and the ITV family. Everyone – on and off screen – found it very difficult to say goodbye to the building, to the studio and to so many friends.”

Our exclusive pictures show workmen stripping all the Christmas decorations from the studios, ensuring they were bare before the keys were handed to a host of new shows.

It’s certainly not the end of Television Centre, which has been used by ITV Daytime since 2018 and the redevelopment of its old home The London Studios.

In fact, it’s thriving with huge shows like Limitless Win, Strictly and the National Lottery draw booked in as well as Saturday Night Live UK.

Podcasts and major gaming events have also utilised the Centre’s facilities.

As for ITV, channel boss Kevin Lygo explained the big move earlier in the year.

He said: “Daytime is a really important part of what we do, and these scheduling and production changes will enable us to continue to deliver a schedule providing viewers with the news, debate and discussion they love from the presenters they know and trust as well as generating savings which will allow us to reinvest across the programme budget in other genres.

“These changes also allow us to consolidate our news operations and expand our national, international and regional news output and to build upon our proud history of trusted journalism at a time when our viewers need accurate, unbiased news coverage more than ever.”

However, the change has angered many behind the scenes including some big name Loose Women stars who are paid by the episode.
