In a year of headlines nobody saw coming, Terrell Carter just gave the world its most beautiful shock yet.
In a quiet vineyard in Napa Valley, under a golden sunset and surrounded by just 14 guests, the Broadway star and Tyler Perry alum said “I do” — in a ceremony so private, no one even knew he was engaged.
But the real surprise?
At the end of the ceremony, Terrell and his new husband walked out holding the hands of two toddlers.
“These are our babies,” he said, smiling through tears.
“We’ve been waiting three years to share this moment with the world.”
A LOVE STORY OUT OF THE SPOTLIGHT
Terrell’s husband, a non-celebrity named Miles Donovan, is a youth counselor from Atlanta. The two met in 2018 while volunteering at a mental health awareness event. They kept their relationship quiet — not out of shame, but protection.
“I’d spent so much of my life being seen,” Terrell told the guests during his vows.
“This was the first time I felt safe being known.”
They got engaged in late 2022 during a quiet trip to Santa Fe — no paparazzi, no big announcement. Just a handwritten letter, a small ring, and a promise to live a life rooted in real love.
FATHERHOOD IN SECRET
The twin toddlers — a boy and a girl named Jace and Maren — were adopted in 2021 after a lengthy, emotionally intense process. Born prematurely and abandoned in the hospital system, the children spent nearly a year in foster care.
“We didn’t choose them because we wanted a picture-perfect family,” Terrell said in his toast.
“We chose them because they were already our story before we even met.”
Both children, now three years old, are healthy, joyful, and (according to wedding guests) obsessed with music and applesauce.
A GUEST LIST OF LOVE, NOT STATUS
Absent from the ceremony were Hollywood A-listers or industry executives. Instead, Terrell and Miles invited only family, longtime friends, and the social workers who helped finalize their adoption.
The officiant? Terrell’s childhood pastor.
The flower girl? A teen from the group home where Miles works.
And the music? Performed by a live gospel trio — not for performance, but for healing.
“We didn’t want a celebrity wedding,” Terrell said.
“We wanted a homecoming.”
THE WORLD REACTS
The morning after the wedding, Terrell posted just one photo on Instagram:
A blurred black-and-white image of him, Miles, and the twins walking barefoot through the grass.
Caption:
“Chosen. Loved. Carter, party of 4.”
Fans flooded the post with congratulations, support, and tears.
“This is the love story we all needed,” one comment read.
“No drama. No headlines. Just pure, earned joy.”

WHAT’S NEXT?
Terrell’s team confirmed he’s taking a brief break from filming to focus on family life. He’ll return in late 2025 for a lead role in an upcoming Netflix series centered on fatherhood, inspired in part by his own experience.
He also plans to release a children’s book, co-authored with Miles, about adoption, identity, and chosen family — titled “Two Hands, Four Hearts.”
In an industry often defined by spectacle, Terrell Carter just reminded the world:
the most powerful story you can tell… is the truth of your own love.
