FORMER Manchester City star Eike Immel has told how he blew £10million – and ended up in a council flat on benefits.

The German keeper spent two years with City, playing 50 times in the Premier League and former First Division.

Immel won 19 West Germany caps, going to five major tournaments, and lifted the Bundesliga title with Stuttgart.

The 64-year-old earned fortunes from his spells with City and Borussia Dortmund.

But a German court jailed him for two years and two months in August after hearing he had failed to repay over 100 loans.

Immel has yet to serve his term, and lives in social housing in his birthplace Stadtallendorf – working unpaid as a goalkeeping coach to local youth teams.

He revealed in a German TV documentary how his fortunes disappeared.

Immel told Armes Deutschland (Poor Germany): “In the past I earned millions. But these days I live on £489 a month.

“The state supports the people who need help.  I have to say that’s terrific.

“I must have squandered at least ten million euros [£8.7m] during my career.  I used to be highly sought-after.
