Hor-ror on UK Motorway as Woman Found De-a-d on Hard Shoulder After Driver Spots B-o-d-y
A WOMAN has tragically been found dead on a major motorway – after drivers reported seeing a body on the hard shoulder.
The M55 was closed for five hours after the grim discovery near Preston, Lancashire, yesterday evening.
Officers were scrambled to the busy stretch following a string of reports from concerned motorists at around 10.20pm.
The tragic discovery was later made between Junction 1, for Broughton Roundabout, and Junction 2, for Becconsall Interchange.
An investigation into the woman’s death has since been launched, Lancashire Police confirmed.
The force said: “We were called at 10.20pm yesterday (Aug 10) to a report of a concern for welfare of a woman.
“Ten minutes later at 10.30pm we received another call after a motorist driving towards Blackpool on the M55 reported seeing what they believed was a body on the hard shoulder of the motorway.
“Officers attended the scene, between junctions 1 and 2 near to the Broughton interchange, where very sadly we can confirm they found the body of a woman.
“Enquiries are ongoing into the circumstances.
“The motorway was closed for around five hours.”
It comes just days after road workers discovered human remains on the M67 in Tameside, Greater Manchester.
They made the grim discovery shortly after 11pm last Monday – with the road later closed in both directions.
A post-mortem has revealed that the body is a man between 20-28-years-old, approximately 5’5″ to 5’9″ tall and of medium build.
The grizzly find prompted a major police response as officers worked through the night at the scene.
Detectives are continuing to investigate and establish the circumstances of his death.
