Sky Sports Formula 1 presenter Simon Lazenby stunned his co-stars into silence when discussing Ferrari’s lacklustre campaign. The broadcaster made a telling remark about Lewis Hamilton’s commitments.
Before the Las Vegas Grand Prix, the Scuderia sit fourth in the Constructors’ Championship. Runaway winners McLaren, Mercedes and Red Bull have all had better campaigns than the Italian team thus far. In terms of drivers, the arrival of Hamilton from Mercedes this season to partner Charles Leclerc promised a lot, but they have not won a race all year. Hamilton is yet to even finish on a podium, with Leclerc only doing so a handful of times. Despite penning an extension in July, questions are starting to be asked of team principal Fred Vasseur and the operation as a whole. Lazenby took his The F1 Show colleagues aback when he suggested Hamilton may reconsider his position should these poor results trickle over into 2026.
“This is Ferrari. If [poor results] carry on in 2026 then heads are going to roll. They just will,” claimed Lazenby, speaking alongside Ted Kravitz and Bernie Collins. “Stretch all the way back to 2007 with Kimi [Raikkonen] for example. They want a drivers’ title. Nothing less than that will sate everybody involved in red.
“They need to start winning championships again. Fred got an extension to his contract. They make the marquee signing, Elkann brings in Hamilton then they have a season like this when they finish fourth. Fourth is not second.
“Something has got to change. It’s got to change early in 2026 or can you see Lewis staying? What will happen? It’s usually, as far as Ferrari are concerned, in recent evidence it’s usually the team principal that gets it.”
When seeking a response from either Kravitz or Collins, Lazenby did not get one. Instead, the pair were shocked into a subdued state and Lazenby continued.

He said: “I suppose my point is that if they don’t have a good start to 2026 then changes will be made. The very top level, top brass, are irked by this level of performance or lack of.”
Hamilton’s Brazilian Grand Prix was one to forget. After only qualifying in 13th, he crashed into the back of Franco Colapinto’s Alpine during the opening lap and was forced to withdraw from the race due to irreparable front wing damage.
The Brit described this outcome and his current situation as a nightmare. Hamilton said: “This is a nightmare, and I’ve been living it for a while.
“The flip between the dream of driving for this amazing team, and then the nightmare of results that we’ve had, the ups and downs, it is challenging. This weekend has been disastrous and disappointing for everyone. I am trying to keep my head above water and remain positive.”
