The Australian Human Rights Commission has called for a coronial inquest into a suspected double murder-suicide involving two children, saying there is “never a justification for family violence or murder”.
The bodies of Jarrod Clune, 50, his partner Maiwenna Goasdoue, 49, and their sons Leon, 16, and Otis, 14, were found by police called to a Mott Cl home in up-market Mosman Park, 15km southwest of the CBD in Perth’s western suburbs, on January 30.
Authorities suspect the parents killed their children before taking their own lives.

It is understood a note found on the front door contained instructions to call police, and a letter found inside reportedly discussed the parents’ mindset.
A cause of death has not been revealed, but no weapon was used, police said.
Both children had lived with autism and, according to reports, were non-verbal.
Police said Otis and Leon “experienced significant health challenges”, and family friends have suggested the family had been struggling after cuts to NDIS funding.
One educator told the Daily Mail the children “never slept at night”, and one of the children had previously been expelled from Christ Church Grammar over a spitting incident.
“They were kind-hearted boys who just needed to be understood,” she said.
The school said in a short statement it is “a time for caring for grieving families” and it would not comment further out of respect for the boys and police conducting their investigation.
‘Never a justification for murder’
Disability Discrimination Commissioner Rosemary Kayess said it was important “the gravity of this situation is not diminished” because the teens were autistic and required support.
“There is never a justification for family violence or murder,” Kayess said.
“We must reject the idea that disability is a burden — every child has the right to life, safety and support, and families should have access to help well before crisis.”
Kayess said that without meaningful action, “tragedies like this will continue”.
“A coronial inquest is urgently needed to ensure strong investigative powers to respond to this tragedy and to identify the underlying and systemic issues that led to the parents’ actions, and to provide a sense of justice for Otis and Leon,” Kayess said.
Cottesloe MP Sandra Brewer said this week that she would support an inquest “so the community can understand what happened and consider recommendations to prevent future tragedies”.
WA Premier Roger Cook said he would leave it up to the coroner to decide while calling for calm.
“This is a horrible event … which will touch everyone when they hear about the loss of two young lives and the parents taking their own lives … and we are trying to make sense of this,” Cook told reporters on Tuesday.
“But please allow the investigation process to take its course.”

Kayess said recent NDIS reforms had made it harder for families to receive the support they need, leaving them “anxious and frightened”.
“Governments must recognise the harm this is causing and act urgently — with transparency, accountability, and genuine involvement of people with disability and their families,” she said.
Federal Health Minister Mark Butler declined to comment on the family’s NDIS support earlier this week but said disability authorities are co-operating with the police investigation.
“It’s an awful tragedy at so many different levels, but particularly the loss of two children’s lives who obviously did not choose to die,” he said.
‘We are listening’: NDIS Minister
NDIS Minister Jenny McAllister said significant reform had taken place to make the scheme more “fair, consistent and empowering for people with permanent and significant disability”.
“Both payments and plan budgets for NDIS participants have continued to rise while the Albanese Government has worked to make sure the scheme is fit for the future,” McAllister told 7NEWS.com.au.
“Average plan budgets have also increased over the two-year period to 30 September 2025 by 4.7 percent per annum for all NDIS participants, 5.5 percent per annum for participants in Supported Independent Living (SIL) and 5.6 percent per annum for participants not in SIL.
“We are midway through this reform journey. We are listening to feedback from the community on how these changes are being implemented.”
It comes amid a shakeup of the process for creating NDIS plans to make it “fairer, more consistent and easier for participants”. The public has until March 6 to comment, with the new planning process to be in place from mid-2026.

About 50 people impacted by the Clune family tragedy gathered at Gibbon Park on Wednesday for a vigil organised by the Mosman Park Sisterhood.
“We wanted to pay our respects to the Clune family and provide a space for our community members to come and reflect and heal on something that’s really impacted our community,” sisterhood member Fariba Fanaian said.
Mosman Park Mayor Paul Shaw said there was a “great deal of shock at what happened”.
“Events like this I think give people the opportunity to do that processing,” Shaw said.
