MAFS Australia fans have shared their thoughts on Gia Fleur’s TV husband, Scott McCristal (Image: Channel 4)
Viewers of Married at First Sight Australia have figured out why participant Scott McCristal seems so recognisable.
The 2026 contestant entered the experiment alongside 17 other hopeful singles, all aiming to find their perfect match. As per the show’s format, the brides and grooms meet for the first time at the altar, having been paired by experts Mel Schilling, Alessandra Rampolla and John Aiken.
However, as the new faces get acquainted, fans have quickly realised that businessman Scott has already made several appearances on reality TV.
He featured on Million Dollar Island Australia in 2023, gameshow Holey Moley in 2021 and dating programme Blind Date in 2018. This revelation has prompted some sharp-eyed Reddit users to question Scott’s motives for participating in MAFS.

One viewer quipped: “[He’s] obviously authentically on here ‘looking for love’ smh [shaking my head].”, reports OK!.
Another opined: “IMO [in my opinion] they shouldn’t let these professional fifteen minuters on every show! Sure this dude wants to be married!”
In a previous interview with The Courier Mail in 2018, the groom confessed his desire for “fame”. “Tradie work is not for me. I want fame. My dream goal is to do TV and movies,” he stated.
However, he defended his recent return to television last month, telling Australian outlet Pedestrian that this experiment is “completely different”.

He elaborated: “It’s just funny, because obviously everyone just talks about what they’ve seen in the past. This was a long time ago I did these so-called reality shows, and to be honest, they were just fun games.
“It’s not like I was going out dating someone. It’s completely different things, so I don’t really care what anyone says.”
Scott tied the knot with the contentious bride Gia Fleur at the start of the experiment, and their journey has been solid thus far.
However, they recently hit a snag after Gia viewed her husband’s audition tape and uncovered his true sentiments about dating a woman with children.
Despite assuring the mother-of-one that he was open to her having a daughter, he expressed very different opinions prior to joining the show.
In his audition, Scott informed producers that he would consider dating a single mother if he wasn’t expected to financially support their child. He also forgot the name of Gia’s daughter.
