A 17-year-old boy has been charged after an alleged hit-and-run incident left a woman fighting for life on the NSW Mid-North Coast.

Emergency services were called to James Street in Glenreagh, about 30km from Coffs Harbour late last night, where they found a 21-year-old woman had been hit by a car.

The woman was treated by paramedics for serious head injuries and was taken to hospital, where she remains in a critical condition.

A 17-year-old boy was arrested at a house on James Street yesterday and was taken to Coffs Harbour Police Station for questioning.

He was later charged with multiple offences, including failing to stop and assist after and causing grievous bodily harm.

The boy was refused bail and will appear in a children’s court today.

Police are urging anyone with information or footage that potentially captured the alleged hit and run to come forward and speak to them, or to contact Crime Stoppers.
