MOM Lindsay Clancy who is accused of killing her three children before jumping out of a window has been seen in court for the first time.
The Massachusetts nurse is accused of murdering Cora, 5, Dawson, 3, and Callan, 8 months, at their Duxbury home on January 24, 2023, while her husband was running an errand.

She allegedly strangled all three with a fitness band before launching herself out of a window in a failed attempt to take her own life which resulted in permanent paralysis from the neck down.
Clancy made her first in-court appearance on Friday, after having previously attended hearings only via video from Tewksbury State Hospital where she has been undergoing treatment.
During the pre-trial hearing, her attorney requested on her behalf that the proceedings be split into two separate phases.
The 35-year-old wants one jury to hear the case for if she is guilty of strangling and killing her three children, and another separate trial, to decide if she was suffering from postpartum psychosis at the time.

They will have to decide if she had a “mental disease or defect” that would have impacted her actions at the time of the children’s deaths.
This second phase of the trial would only go ahead if she is found guilty in the first part.
She has pleaded not guilty, with her lawyers citing mental health issues including postpartum depression and psychosis.
Clancy’s attorney Kevin Reddington previously mentioned in court that she had a brief stint in a mental hospital amid a battle with depression three weeks before the fateful day, but was sent home after five days with two new prescriptions.
Her further noted that Clancy was taking 12 medications at the time of the killings and at no point was her husband told not to leave her alone.
These medications included Prozac and Seroquel, which allegedly gave her side effects such as “homicidal and suicidal ideation.”

Last month, Clancy’s husband filed a civil lawsuit against his wife’s former doctors claiming she was over-prescribed medication including antidepressants and mood stabilizers to the point where she heard voices.
The wrongful death and malpractice lawsuit accuses her psychiatrist and a nurse practitioner of failing to care for Clancy properly despite knowing her history of poor mental health.
Clancy looked withdrawn and stared blankly ahead as she was wheeled into the courtroom on Friday, where her parents were also present.
They have visited their daughter daily at Tewksbury Hospital, with her mom Paula tearfully telling CBS News “she’s a lovely mother, she always has been”.
Timeline of the Lindsay Clancy case
October, 25, 2022: Clancy writes a note in her phone saying, “I think I sort of resent my other children, because they prevent me from treating Cal like my first baby. And I know that’s not fair to them. I know that. I was feeling so depressed last evening when Cora and Dawson came home from school. I know it runs off on them, so we had a pretty rough evening. I want to feel love and connection with all of my kids.”
December 2022:
– Clancy is evaluated at Woman & Infants Hospital Center for Women’s Behavioral Health and told she does not have postpartum depression as she has no symptoms of it, according to Assistant District Attorney Jennifer Sprague.
– Later this month she reports suicidal thoughts and thoughts of hurting her children. Her husband Patrick informs the police.
January 1, 2023: Clancy self-admits to McLean Psychiatric Hospital in Belmont. She is discharged on January 5 without indications she is a danger to herself or others, per Sprague.
January 22, 2023: The Clancy’s have dinner at home of family friend who said she seemed normal. He told police that Patrick said Clancy was suffering withdrawal symptoms from a prescribed medication for a month and a half before their dinner with “the worst side effects possible”.
January 23, 2023: Clancy writes in her phone that she is nervous about returning to work and has “a touch of postpartum anxiety.”
January 24, 2023:
Patrick starts work in the basement of family home and Clancy took her eldest child to her appointment at the pediatrician.
Upon her return, she played out in the snow with her two oldest children, making a snowman and sending pictures of it to the family.
At 4:02pm, she searches a child laxative medication on her phone followed 11 minutes later by “take out 3v” a local restaurant. She then used Apple Maps to see how long it would take to drive there from their home.
At 4:47pm, she phones CVS and speaks to manager who tells her they do not have any of the laxative meds she wanted, but did have similar.
Just after 5pm, she texts her husband to see if he wanted takeout from ThreeV as it had “been a long day” and she called in an order at 5:10pm before asking her husband to also go past CVS to pick up the laxatives.
While Patrick is picking up prescriptions from CVS and dinner for the family, Clancy allegedly strangles all three children and tries to kill herself.
He arrived at CVS at 5:32pm and called his wife who did not pick up. She called him back one minute later and he confirmed the medication with her.
Patrick arrived home at 6:09pm and noticed “silence”. He called his wife and there was no answer. He then found the door to their bedroom on the second floor locked and noticed blood on the floor and the window open when he got inside. Rushing over to the window, he saw Clancy lying on the ground in the backyard with cuts on her body.
He called 911 and asked his wife where the children were and he found their bodies in the basement with exercise bands still tied around their necks. He untied them and tried to get them to breathe. Officers found him there and he told them “she killed the kids”.
February 6, 2023: Clancy tells Patrick in front of a psychologist that she heard voices and had “moment of psychosis” after he left the house that day. She claimed a man was telling her to kill the children and herself.
February 7, 2023: Clancy’s lawyer tells court she is still suicidal and enters a not guilty plea by reason of insanity.
Reddington noted that he is “protective” of Clancy and is trying to “gradually acclimate” her to in-person court appearances before the trial scheduled for July 2026 in Plymouth Superior Court.
“It’s a very emotionally draining thing and she’s nervous and scared,” he said.
A lawyer who is not part of the case, previously spoke to The U.S. Sun about how Clancy’s team will not need to prove her insanity to escape conviction.
Criminal defense attorney Duncan Levin, who has worked with the likes of Harvey Weinstein, said that prosecutors will have to show evidence that could prove she was of sound mind when she allegedly killed her children.
“This case is not going to center around whether she committed the murders or not,” Levin told The U.S. Sun.

“That’s something that is not going to be an issue in this case.
“What is going to be an issue is her mental state and whether she was legally responsible.”
