A Queensland Police helicopter is involved in the search.

A search has resumed on Thursday for a missing swimmer at Buddina Beach on the Sunshine Coast.

Police and emergency services were called to the beach on Pacific Boulevard about 4:15pm on Wednesday, following reports a swimmer had gone missing in the water.

A police helicopter joined in the search alongside water police, jet skis, foot patrols and surf lifesavers to locate the person.

Specialist divers joined the search about 8:15pm, while all other services were suspended for the night due to darkness.

A multi-agency search again launched at first light Thursday morning.

Local residents reported the sad sounds of helicopters in the air for hours as the search continued.

Michael Holt, who spent two hours helping, said police helicopters, along with the Westpac rescue helicopter, were joined by at least 12 jet skies and a large police patrol boat.

“Unfortunately, pretty sad situation and rough conditions,’’ Mr Holt said.

The area at Pt Cartwright is popular for surfers but can be particularly hazardous for swimmers, particularly in bigger swell conditions.

“My son was surfing there and saw the search. Very sad,’’ Shon Evans said

Anyone with information regarding the whereabouts of the missing swimmer was urged to contact Policelink on 131 444.

It comes after police located a body in the search for a tourist who went missing in waters off the Gold Coast yesterday.

A 20-year-old man went for a swim at Main Beach about 6.30pm on Tuesday before he was seen struggling in the water.
