A beloved California nurse, who garnered hundreds of thousands of views for his candid conversations about medicine and life on TikTok — was killed in an alleged robbery.
Friends, family members and social media followers are remembering 33-year-old Lartey Solomon — who was known as “Nurse Solomon” on TikTok and worked as a registered nurse in the Bay Area — after he was shot and killed in Oakland on May 31.
The Alameda County District Attorney’s Office said in a June 9 news release that Shacory Carnell Daniels, 39, has been charged with murder in connection with the May 31 alleged robbery and shooting. Authorities believe that Daniels shot and killed the healthcare professional while he was walking to his car near 14th Street and Harrison Street in Oakland.

“What Lartey was doing online wasn’t for financial reasons, it was his passion,” said Nana Ekua Solomon, the victim’s sister-in-law.GoFundMe
Daniels was arrested on June 4 in in Menlo Park, about 30 miles from Oakland, according to the San Francisco Chronicle.
Prosecutors said that he has been charged with murder, an attempted robbery-related felony, personal and intentional discharge of a firearm, and possession of a firearm and ammunition by a convicted felon. He is next set to appear in court on June 30.
Solomon’s family members told local outlet KTVU that he and a friend were leaving a nightclub and were walking to their cars when someone approached them and asked for a chain around his neck.
“This man approached him again and said, ‘Give me your chain,’ ” his mother, Florence Edward, told the outlet. “My son says, ‘You can have…’ He was ready to take off everything.”
Solomon’s friend told Edwards that he was walking toward his own parked car when he heard shots being fired.
“He was scared of guns,” Emmanuel Solomon, the victim’s brother, told the outlet. “For him to die of gun violence, that’s sad and really tough for us.”
According to a GoFundMe page set up to assist with funeral expenses and to help provide for his 11-year-old daughter and father, Solomon immigrated to Oakland from Ghana and studied at Samuel Merritt University in Oakland before becoming a nurse.
Solomon went on to work for the Alameda Healthcare and Wellness Center as well as Kindred Hospital in San Leandro. GoFundMe organizers described nursing as Solomon’s “calling.” His advice on TikTok earned him more than 20,000 followers and more than 1 million views.
“He was passionate about educating people on their health and empowering them to make informed decisions about their well-being,” the fundraiser states. “His patients trusted him, his colleagues respected him, and those who encountered him found comfort in his compassion. He treated everyone with dignity, patience and kindness.”

“No matter how busy life became, he made time for the people he loved,” GoFundMe organizers wrote of Solomon.GoFundMe
“Lartey was not just a headline,” Nana Ekua Solomon, the victim’s sister-in-law, added to KTVU. “What Lartey was doing online wasn’t for financial reasons, it was his passion. We want his legacy to still live.”
Solomon is also being remembered as a doting father to his daughter and someone who was “deeply devoted to his family.”
“No matter how busy life became, he made time for the people he loved. Family gatherings, phone calls, words of encouragement, and moments of laughter were important to him,” organizers wrote of Solomon. “He believed in staying connected and reminding others that they mattered.”
“The loss of Lartey has left an unimaginable void in our hearts,” the GoFundMe page continued. “A daughter has lost her father, parents have lost their son, siblings have lost their brother, and countless others have lost a trusted health educator, caregiver, mentor and friend.”
