Cops said the smash happened at around 7.11pm at the junction of Larkspur Terrace and Iris Lane in DeKalb County, Georgia.

Emergency crews arrived to find the postal truck flipped onto its side following the two-vehicle crash.

The driver, later named as 40-year-old Tinisha Cade – was pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigators believe the passenger vehicle turned onto Larkspur when it struck the postal truck, causing it to overturn.

Witnesses told local media that Cade was trapped beneath the wreckage.

A neighbour said she heard a “loud boom” before rushing outside to a chaotic scene.

She saw the truck lying on its side and heard someone from a nearby car screaming in the street as residents ran out to help.

Another outlet reported the vehicle had to be lifted upright while a badly damaged car was towed away.

Cade, a mother of four, was remembered as a friendly and familiar face in the neighborhood.

One neighbor told Atlanta News First: “She has a lot of kids. Four children.

“And they were very sad, the family filled the block up with their cars.”

Another added: “My thoughts and prayers are with the family because she was a very nice mail carrier, I mean we literally just saw her. I am so sorry to her family. So sorry.

“She was very nice. Any time she delivered mail here she spoke to everybody. She was real friendly and this is not her route often, but she would a lot of times sub for other drivers.”

The cause and manner of Cade’s death remain under investigation.

In a statement, the United States Postal Service said they were “deeply saddened by the tragic loss of a postal family member in a fatal incident on April 27.”
