Stuart Tickner, 50, was found unconscious after police responded to reports of an alleged assault in Sidcup, South East London in the early hours of May 25.
He was rushed to hospital, but sadly died of his injuries five days later.
On Sunday, Liam Burgess, 36, of Dovedale Close, Harefield, was charged with murder and possession of a weapon in a public place.
He appeared at Bromley Magistrates’ Court on Monday, June 22 and has been kept in custody until he appears at the Old Bailey on Wednesday.
Stuart’s friend Debbie Sinclair has set up a fundraiser in his memory, to help his heartbroken family cover the costs of his funeral.
The appeal has so far drummed up more than £9,000 – with a target of £11,000.
She alleged he suffered head injuries “so severe sadly he could not recover from them” in the attack.
Debbie explained: “I have started this Go Fund Me in honour of my close friend Stuart who was a victim of a serious assault on the 25th May 2026 in Sidcup Kent.
“Stuart sustained several head injuries which were so severe sadly he could not recover from them.
“He succumbed to his terrible injuries five days after this awful attack, leaving his family and friends devastated.
“His distraught family really need some help regarding the funeral costs – money is tight and we all really want to give Stu the best send off possible – just as he would have wanted for us all.”
One of Stuart’s many friends, Debbie said he “was full of life and the one of the kindest people I have ever met”.
She added: “His loss is devastating for his mother, daughter and nephews along with his friends of which he had so many.
“He will be missed forever, a rare beacon of sunshine that has been diminished through no fault of his own.”
Debbie said her beloved friend had been “due to start a new job as a bus driver”, adding he has been robbed of his future.
Another poignant tribute on the fundraiser page read: “You had such a wonderful character and you were truly lovely, I am glad to have called you my friend, sending my thoughts and love out to everyone affected and i pray justice will be brought around.”
