Police are investigating whether a 23-year-old man – found dead after a suspected dog attack at one of Sydney‘s most unusual properties, the sprawling mansion known as Saturn‘s Rings – was an intruder.
Emergency services were called to the sprawling 40-hectare property on Badgully Road at Eschol Park, in Sydney’s southwest, shortly before midday on Wednesday after reports that a man’s body had been discovered in a paddock near the road.
Officers arrived to find the 23-year-old dead with significant injuries.
‘Initial inquiries indicate the man may have been attacked by animals prior to his death,’ NSW Police said.
The victim is not believed to have been a resident or worker at the property. Police Commissioner Mal Lanyon said whether or not he was an intruder was a ‘very key line of inquiry’ for the investigation.
Up to eight dogs were reportedly on the property including a German Shepherd, with the animals allegedly unregistered and not microchipped.
According to a witness, another person was also bitten earlier on Friday while council inspectors were finalising a plan to safely capture the dogs.
Council inspectors attended the property later that day armed with tranquilliser darts before removing the animals.
Three utes carrying dogs in cages were then seen leaving the gated property.

‘Council is supporting police inquiries and will continue to assist as required, in accordance with its legislative responsibilities, including determining the registration and ownership status of the dogs,’ a spokesperson for Campbelltown Council said.
The property is unlike any other home in Sydney, having been built as both a family residence and the headquarters of an unusual spiritual movement.
Polish immigrant Stefan Dzwonnik designed and built the striking mansion to serve as the home of his family and his ‘Universal Power World Society’, according to archival records published by Campbelltown Library.
Stefan envisioned the property becoming a ‘mecca for a worldwide movement directed toward a better life on Earth’.
Its unusual circular design inspired the nickname ‘Saturn’s Rings’.
‘The unique design of the house was based on the rings of the planet Saturn and comprised three concentric units,’ the archive says.
‘The largest on the top level was to provide living quarters for the family. The two lower levels were for the society.’
The ambitious project was never completed before Stefan died in 2018.
