Prince Harry will be bringing his two children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, with him when he visits the United Kingdom next month, and the family will make a special pilgrimage.

It’s been reported by The Sun that the Duke of Sussex will bring his children to their late grandmother, Princess Diana’s final resting place on Althorp Estate. The publication added that the visit would take place just days after what would have been Diana’s 65th birthday on 1 July.

Although the children have never visited the gravesite, Harry’s wife, Meghan Markle, has been before. Harry confirmed the moment in his memoir, Spare, writing: “I was finally bringing the girl of my dreams home so she would meet my mother.”

During their joint trip, which saw Harry’s uncle, Earl Charles Spencer, give their boat a “little shove” after it got stuck in the mud, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex prayed at the gravesite, with Meghan saying she sought “guidance” from Harry’s late mother.

Following her death in 1997, Diana was buried on a private, artificial island in the middle of the lake. The island is closed to members of the public to protect her body.

In 2017, Charles revealed: “We have had four attempted break-ins towards her body in the last 20 years. I am very glad that we have seen all of them off. There are some odd people out there. Keeping her right here [at Althorp] is the safest place.”

Where will the Sussexes stay during their UK trip?

It was confirmed on Friday that during their visit to the United Kingdom next month that Harry and Meghan would stay in a mixture of private and royal residences. While Harry’s security arrangements are still under scrutiny, when he stays in a royal residence with his family, he is afforded security by their existing arrangements.

Harry will begin his trip with an Invictus Games Foundation event at Chatham House, which will bring together experts, policymakers and members of the Invictus Community to discuss issues affecting the wounded, injured and sick service personnel and veterans. Uganda will also be announced as the 26th nation to join the Games.

The Duke and Duchess will then meet Chelsea pensioners at the Royal Hospital Chelsea when they carry out their first joint engagement together in the UK since 2020.

Meghan and the couple’s children have not spent time in the UK since the summer of 2022, when they travelled to London for the late Queen’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations.
