“This feels like a sick dream,” former WNBA player Tamera Young wrote in tribute to her late friend Sharell Canty

Atlanta club owner Sharell Canty was fatally shot on Sunday, May 24, in a Grayson, Ga., home.

The 44-year-old co-owner of Opium nightclub was shot in the head twice before a neighbor found her body on Sunday morning, Gwinett County investigators said, according to arrest warrants obtained by 11 Alive. The neighbor alerted authorities, who later named Stephany Byrom, 48, as a suspect.

“Right now, we do believe that this was an isolated incident, so there should be no concern for the public at this time,” Sgt. Jennifer Richter told WSB-TV on Monday, May 25.

Byrom was arrested on Sunday, according to jail records viewed by PEOPLE. She was charged with malice murder and felony murder, aggravated assault, and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, per court records obtained by PEOPLE, and she remains in custody at Gwinnett County Jail.

The Gwinnett County Police Department said that Canty was killed in a “domestic-related homicide,” according to CBS Atlanta. Authorities have not revealed the nature of Canty and Byrom’s relationship.

An investigation into the incident is ongoing.

After the news of Canty’s murder, her friends and family shared tributes in her honor, celebrating her impact on Atlanta’s nightlife.

“We’re all just mourning right now. We’re all missing our sister, missing our friend, missing Sharell,” Henry told 11 Alive.

Canty had “her own aura,” Henry said, explaining, “when she walks into a club, everybody knows Sharell’s here.”

“She knew how to run a business, she knew what to do to keep the business going. She just had people in place that helped her align the business and take it to the top,” Henry told 11 Alive.

“Sharell gonna tell us to party and ball like she’s still here,” Henry said. “We’re going to keep her legacy alive. We’re gonna keep Opium alive.”

“This feels like a sick dream,” Tamera Young, a former WNBA player, said of Canty’s death in a Facebook post. “One of my favorite people. I’m hurting so bad typing this.”

“You were a real one, a good one, a heart of gold. You wanted people to be happy and enjoy themselves,” she added. “Had I known Thursday night would be our last dinner and night kicking it I would have just stayed longer.”
