Police say a 13-year-old boy was lured to his death from his apartment in Washington, D.C., and was then fatally shot in the chest and “dragged to the sidewalk”.
The victim of the horrific murder was Ahmad Mims, according to the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD). Authorities are continuing to search for the person or persons responsible for the heinous crime, while witnesses have said they may know what motivated the killer.
Witnesses said Ahmad was staying at the apartment where he lived on the 1600 block of Rosedale Street when, on Saturday evening, someone asked him to come outside.
Ahmad’s grandmother, Monica Mims, told local NBC affiliate WRC that the suspect “knocked on the door to ask him to come outside.” She said that was the last time she saw her grandson alive.
Additionally, ring camera footage provided by Mims shows two young males waiting in the hallway outside the apartment just as Ahmad exits. He closes the door when he sees the two people, and peers through the camera. Later, inside a building on that block, Ahmad is believed to have been shot in the chest and killed.
Court records say that one witness saw Ahmad’s body “lying on the front stairwell” of a building on Rosedale Street, with his feet facing the front door and his head on the stairs.”
