Tennessee authorities are investigating the death of a missing woman whose body was found in the parking lot of a hotel.

Chattanooga Police officers responded to a call about a dead body at the Lookout Valley hotel in the 100 block of Patten Chapel Road just before 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday, July 8, according to a police affidavit obtained by PEOPLE.

Officers found the body of a woman, who was later identified as 22-year-old Elysia Kinsella, in the parking lot of the hotel.

Officers allegedly discovered surveillance footage showing Donte Taylor, 40, arriving at the hotel at 4:16 p.m. on July 8 and driving a Ford Crown Victoria to the hotel’s back steps, according to the affidavit.

“A short time later, Taylor walked back in the direction he came,” the affidavit states. “This time, he was carrying what appeared to be a body wrapped in blankets.”

Taylor allegedly dragged the body down the stairs and attempted multiple times to put it in the trunk of his car. “After multiple failed attempts, he laid the victim down in the parking lot and got back into the vehicle,” the affidavit says. “Taylor then turned his vehicle around and ran over the victim’s body, dragging her several feet and partially uncovering her body.”

Taylor then fled the scene but was taken into custody later that day. Cameras in the area where he was apprehended allegedly showed him “pouring what appeared to be cleaning solution on his rear bumper and then wiping off what appeared to be blood or bodily fluids with a napkin,” the affidavit states.

Taylor allegedly admitted to going to the hotel, dragging the woman from the room to the parking lot, saying he and “remembered feeling the bumps when he ran over her body,” according to the affidavit.

Taylor was arrested and charged with abuse of a corpse and tampering with evidence. His next court appearance is scheduled for August 11, Local 3 News reported.

Kinsella’s cause of death remains under investigation. She had been reported missing the previous week.
