The funerals of Cole Worthy, Theo Rae, Jacob Matusiak and Makai Saddington are set to take place over the coming days.

Tributes left near crash site on A66

The funeral details of four of the five young men who died when the car they were travelling in hit a police vehicle on the A66 have been shared.

Michael Robert Cahill, 23, Theo Rae, 17, Cole Robert Worthy, 17, Jacob Matusiak, 23, and Makai Saddington, 18, died in the early hours of Saturday, August 22. The Volkswagen Passat they were travelling in drove the wrong way down the dual carriageway, hitting a marked police vehicle and killing two police officers.

Details have now been shared on social media for the funerals of Mr Rae, Mr Saddington and Mr Worthy by Rose Funeral Directors:

Theo Rae – Monday, September 7, 2pm, at St Bede’s Chapel, Teesside Crematorium
Makai Saddington – Tuesday, September 8, 11am, at St Bede’s Chapel, Teesside Crematorium
Cole Worthy – Wednesday, September 9, 12noon, at St Bede’s Chapel, Teesside Crematorium

Mr Matusiak’s funeral details have been shared by St John the Evangelist in South Bank – it is taking place on Friday, September 4, at 3pm, at the church on Normanby Road in South Bank, As reported, several schools in the area are closing early.

A spokesperson for Redcar and Cleveland Council said: “Following discussions between local headteachers and the Local Authority, a number of schools in the South Bank area will close earlier than usual on Friday afternoon due to anticipated traffic congestion and transport disruption associated with a local funeral taking place in the area. The decision was made after careful consideration of the potential impact on home-to-school transport and the departure of pupils, staff and families at the end of the school day.

“Schools have worked with the Local Authority and transport providers to consider arrangements for pupils, including those who travel to and from specialist educational settings. We recognise that early closure may cause inconvenience for some parents and carers, and we thank them for their understanding and cooperation.” Middlesbrough Council said they were not aware of any planned closures of schools next week.

Police officers, Tom Clough and dad-of-two Matthew Blades, lost their lives as a result of the crash. A fundraiser set up for the families of the two officers raised £1.2 million target, with 44,000 people donating to the GoFundMe page which was created by the Cleveland Police Federation.

Meanwhile, 24 people have been arrested since the horrific crash. Around 200 police officers from outside Cleveland Police have been drafted in and the Government has announced the force will be given an extra £2 million to tackle serious and organised crime.
