A Utah couple pleaded guilty to homicide charges in the March 2025 death of their toddler daughter.
The child, 18-month-old Ruby Marie Murray, died on March 19, 2025, after prolonged neglect in her family’s Nibley, Utah, home, police said, according to KUTV, KSL and the Herald Journal.
Her parents Mitchell Chesnut Murray, 31, and Carrie Marie Murray, 32, were charged in December with aggravated murder and aggravated child abuse, according to court records cited by KUTV, KSL and Cache Valley Daily.
The investigation began after Carrie, a nurse, called emergency services to report that her child was “beyond help,” KUTV and Cache Valley Daily reported, citing court records.
Carrie subsequently refused to administer life-saving measures to the child, according to court documents cited by Law & Crime.

Investigators say Ruby suffered severe neglect before her death, per the outlets.
Security footage and baby monitor records showed that Ruby was outside her crib for just six hours during the last four days of her life, KUTV, Cache Valley Daily and KSL reported, citing police.
Another person was near her for only about 50 minutes during that period, according to the outlets.
Throughout the last night of her life, Ruby was “crying, whimpering and gasping,” security cameras show, according to court records obtained by Cache Valley Daily and KSL.
Her crib was dirty and contained old scraps of food, and the room was considerably warmer than the rest of the house, likely because it had a space heater, investigators said.
The couple had been arrested on charges of aggravated murder and aggravated child abuse in December, KUTV, KSL and Cache Valley Daily reported at the time.
On July 2, they pleaded guilty to child abuse homicide and aggravated child abuse, Cache Valley Daily, KSL and the Herald Journal reported, citing court records.
They will be sentenced in September, the same month as Ruby’s birthday. According to her online obituary, Ruby enjoyed the Green Day song, “Wake Me Up When September Ends,” as her lullaby.
“She was a sweet and curious little one, whose laughter and smile lit up every room,” read part of the obituary.
