LATEST POLICE UPDATE: 16-YEAR-OLD CHARGED OVER SUSPECTED FAMILY VI0LENCE H0MICIDE AS DETECTIVES CONTINUE INVESTIGATION

A teenage boy has been charged with murder after he allegedly stabbed his mother to death southeast of Perth on Tuesday.

The 16-year-old boy is also charged with the alleged attempted murder of his little sister, who managed to flee their family home in Bentley to get help.

Both she and her mother had called Triple-0, sending emergency services racing to the home about 6.15am.

Police had already discovered the body of the 35-year-old mother, when the injured 12-year-old girl was found with serious stab wounds on the nearby Albany Hwy at Cannington.

Bystanders spotted the girl and provided life-saving first aid.

“We’re very thankful that members of the public did stop, assist … and (St John WA) were called as soon as possible,” WA Police Detective Acting Inspector Jessica Securo said.

A police operation temporarily shut down the highway, as the girl was taken by ambulance to Perth Children’s Hospital where she remains in a critical but stable condition.

Authorities do not believe anyone else is involved and there is no ongoing threat to the community.

The 16-year-old boy was arrested at the Bentley property and charged on Wednesday with one count of murder and one count of attempting to unlawfully kill.

Securo described the incident as a “suspected family violence homicide.”

“It is our understanding that the three lived at the address together.

“This incident will have a significant impact on the family, friends and loved ones of all those involved. Our thoughts are with them all, particularly the 12-year-old girl.”

The 16-year-old boy is due to appear before the Perth Children’s Court on Wednesday.
