BREAKING UPDATE: POLICE REVEAL WHO WAS ALLEGEDLY BEHIND THE WHEEL WHEN THE STOLEN SUV CRASHED, LEAVING A 13-YEAR-OLD BOY DE-AD
A 13-year-old boy has died and three teenagers have been arrested after a stolen car crashed near Newcastle on Monday morning.
The boy was travelling in a Toyota Kluger that is believed to have been stolen between Sunday night and Monday morning from the Swansea area, south of Newcastle.
The Kluger was found overturned in a paddock in Gateshead, south of Newcastle. NBN
Emergency services were called to a paddock on Willow Road, Gateshead, near Lake Macquarie at 3am on Monday morning after the Kluger had left the road.
The car had turned onto its side, and was found with a smashed windscreen and its boot door flung open due to the ferocity of the crash.
The 13-year-old boy was treated at the scene, but could not be saved and was pronounced dead.
A 14-year-old-boy, who was in the car, was arrested at the scene and taken to hospital with leg injuries under police guard.

Two people fled the scene, but were later arrested. NBN
Two other people believed to be in the car fled the scene.
After initial investigations, a second 14-year-old boy and an 18-year-old man were arrested and taken to John Hunter Hospital under police guard.
No charges have been laid, and it is not known who was driving the car at the time of the crash.
A crime scene has been established, and police, including officers from the Crash Investigation Unit, continue to investigate.
A report will be prepared for the coroner.
