Ohio house of horrors neighbor makes terrifying discovery in attic after family fled home

A neighbor of the Siders family said that one local resident got a look inside the ‘House of Horrors’ after the children were removed

A neighbor to the Siders family, who are facing 16 counts of child endangerment, told the Daily Mail that another neighbor was able to get a peek inside their home after the family suddenly vacated it.

“Our neighbor took a tour of that house, and they said a couple of the doors had padlocks on the outside,” the woman said. “She said the conditions were horrible inside. She said there was something really weird about the house, so they didn’t buy it.”

Piles of kids’ clothes were found in the attic, and the floor was caved in due to the urine that eroded the floorboards, another neighbor told the Mail.

Years before six siblings were rescued from an Ohio home littered with trash and human waste in June, they drew concerns from educators and police, but nothing was done.

The six kids, who were between 7 and 13 years old in 2021, were constantly absent from Addaville Elementary in southeastern Ohio to the point that their parents — Gary Siders, Jr., 36, and Elizabeth Siders, 33, drew several complaints from the school, records showed.

Despite being a short five-minute drive from the school, the children routinely missed class. It led to a school attendance officer signing a complaint in October 2021, which started legal proceedings accusing the Siders of failing to send their children to school.

“The child has been absent from school without legitimate excuse for the entire 2021-2022 academic year to present, an amount in excess of 72 hours for the school year; and as such is thereby a habitual truant,” one of the complaints read.

Students in Ohio are considered a “habitual truant” after either missing 30 consecutive hours of class time or 42 hours in a month, or 72 hours throughout the school year.

But nothing was done, and a judge tossed the complaint after police failed to find the parents and serve the complaint to them.

Instead, the six children wouldn’t be removed from the home until June 2026, with 10 other siblings from a cramped bedroom that authorities say the Siders locked them in.

The kids, between 18 months and 18 years old, were allegedly kept in a 12-foot-by-12-foot room that prosecutors said had human feces. The children reportedly suffered from a range of health complications. Two were airlifted to a hospital, and one was in critical condition.

Ohio Attorney General Andy Wilson described them as “almost feral animals,” adding that the oldest couldn’t spell her name.

The children have since been transferred to the custody of the state.

Gary Siders, Jr.’s parents — Christina and Gary Siders, Sr. — were also criminally charged. They were all initially jailed on $300,000 bond.
