A British cruise passenger has died after he was found unconscious on the ship’s deck.
The tourist, understood to be a 79-year-old man, died on Tuesday after suffering a medical emergency on board. The cruise ship was in Chania, on Crete’s northwest coast.
Despite medical efforts, he was pronounced dead. The man was found unconscious on the vessel’s deck in the morning, the Hellenic Coast Guard announced.
He was transferred to the ship’s medical clinic where he received first aid before he was taken to a private medical facility in Chania by ambulance. An investigation has now been launched to establish the circumstances surrounding the man’s death.
A post-mortem examination has also been ordered by Chania Port Authority, which conducts the investigation into the incident, ERT News reports. The outlet added that the Brit was spotted by other passengers on the ship.
No other information has been released regarding the death.
