An investigation has been launched after a woman fell from a balcony to her death while police were responding to a concern for welfare south of Sydney.
The call was made before 11am on Tuesday, with police called to a building in Wollongong.

Officers at the scene attempted to speak to a woman but she fell from a balcony.
She died at the scene.
A crime scene has been established, and a critical incident has been declared, with a police force from a neighbouring region to analyse what led to the woman falling from the balcony.
At this time, it is not alleged the actions of police directly led to the woman falling.
