THE distraught husband of a mother and her two children who were bound and murdered in their home detailed the final conversation he had with his wife hours before the gruesome killings.
The bodies of Lisa Gail Fields and her two children, Thomas Cordelle Jr. and her pregnant daughter Keziah Luker, were found in separate rooms of their Wilmer, Alabama, home early Monday.

The victims were pronounced dead on the scene as Fields, 46, suffered multiple stab wounds, Keziah, 17, had been fatally shot, and 12-year-old Thomas‘ throat was slit so deep he was nearly decapitated.
Fields’ emotional husband publicly addressed the grisly killings of his wife and stepchildren on Wednesday after returning to Alabama from an out-of-state work trip.
“I was supposed to protect them. I was supposed to be there for them. They killed our babies. They killed my wife,” Nathan Fields told CBS affiliate WKRG.
Nathan said he spoke to his wife over the phone at around 6:30 pm on Sunday, hours before the mother and her two children were killed.

“About 20 minutes later, I tried calling her and didn’t get an answer,” Nathan, fighting back tears, said.
“It was going directly to voicemail, and I knew, I knew instantly something was wrong.”
Nathan said he and his wife had known each other for 30 years and helped raise her two children.
“I watched TJ turn into such a little man,” the stepfather said of Thomas, who his family refers to as TJ.
“Keziah, she was reaching her goals. She was a young mother who was dedicated. She got her GED. She was getting ready to enroll in college.”
Shannon Corry, Fields’ younger sister, previously told The U.S. Sun her 17-year-old niece was due to give birth in June.

Nathan told WKRG that he believes the attack on his family was personal, suspecting the perpetrator had visited his home “on a regular basis.”
“That’s the part that kills me, is knowing that they were afraid, you know, they were scared. Whoever did this knew us,” he said.
Corry relayed the same sentiment to The U.S. Sun, saying her sister welcomed the suspect into the home.
“Whoever did this definitely knew our family well because the dogs let them in and out and my sister Lisa unlocked the door for them,” a distraught Corry said.
Mobile County Sheriff Paul Burch said investigators believe there may have been one or more suspects behind the horrific act.
Burch detailed how there were no signs of forced entry and that Fields’ home was “left in disarray.”
“It tells me that they had a plan coming in to bring zip ties or flex cuffs with them, so they had a plan,” the sheriff told reporters.
“Someone was searching for something.”
Mandi Evans cherished her friendship with Fields, whom she considered her best friend.
Evans told The U.S. Sun she had last spoken to Fields on April 13, but did not notice anything of concern in her friend’s tone.
“Lisa was a beautiful person, inside and out,” Evans said.
“I don’t know how anybody could look her in the eyes and take her life. My babies were so sweet.
“They had a lot of their mama in them. Selfless, accepting, smart and genuine.
“There will never be another Lisa Gail. I miss my friend.”
The Mobile County Sheriff’s Office has not apprehended a suspect as of Thursday.
