JUST 4 AND 7 YEARS OLD, YET THEY DROVE A CAR ONTO THE ROAD — These Two Young Children’s Reckless Adventure Had Devastating Consequences for Themselves and an Innocent Woman

A woman was critically injured Thursday morning after she was struck by a car driven by two young brothers in Oakland, Calif., according to police.

Surveillance video obtained by KGO-TV shows a Toyota sedan speeding northbound on 35th Avenue at about 9:15 a.m.

Oakland police tell PEOPLE the Toyota sideswiped another vehicle traveling in the opposite direction, then lost control and struck the woman, who was in a crosswalk walking her dog near 35th Avenue and Mangels Avenue.

Police said the collision occurred around 9:30 a.m. The woman and the children were taken to a hospital. The woman remains in critical condition.

The boys’ uncle told KGO-TV they are 4 and 7 years old and had taken their parents’ car keys while they were asleep. The 7-year-old suffered broken legs and the 4-year-old sustained a concussion, the uncle said, according to the outlet.

Police tell PEOPLE the boys are in stable condition.

The crash occurred several blocks from the children’s home, police said.
