A terrifying explosion tears through the night, revealing a mysterious b0.dy inside the abandoned shed in Nambour
A homeless man’s body has been found inside a makeshift shed destroyed in a fire in Nambour.
Emergency services were called about 7pm on Tuesday after “an explosion was heard by a neighbouring property”, prompting police and fire crews to rush to the scene.
Sunshine Coast Detective Inspector Craig Mansfield said the shed was already ablaze when emergency crews arrived, but firefighters brought the fire under control within about 15 minutes.
Police are investigating the unexplained death of a homeless man after a fire tore through a shed on Tuesday night.
Once the fire was out, a body was found inside the shed.
“The male has yet to be identified due to the circumstances of the fire, but we believe it is a male, potentially aged around his 60s,” Inspector Mansfield said.
“We have no information to clarify that at this point in time … it will be some time off before we are able to identify the cause of death.”
The man is believed to have been homeless and known in the local community.
Inspector Mansfield said the timber-frame shed with metal cladding appeared to be home-built and standing on privately owned land held by a company.
The block, he said, bordered parkland and sat behind commercial properties on Howard St.
“It’s effectively a scrubland with bush land around it. It’s unkept, but it’s owned by a company,” Inspector Mansfield said.

Police said they had spoken to a number of witnesses and believed they were “on the right track” to identifying the dead man.
But Inspector Mansfield said it would be inappropriate to confirm his identity before further processes, including next-of-kin notifications, were completed.
Asked whether investigators were looking at the possibility of an arson attack, Inspector Mansfield said police were keeping an open mind.
“Everything will be a line of inquiry for us,” he said.
Investigators are now speaking with local businesses and reviewing any available CCTV from surrounding properties.
Police are urging anyone with information or vision from the area to come forward.
