Shadows Over the Beverly Hills Estate

Shadows Over the Beverly Hills Estate

The moment my husband grabbed my hair, the orchestral music in the ballroom abruptly stopped.

I had attended the annual charity gala at a luxurious estate in Beverly Hills as Julian Vance’s wife. But for months, he had treated me more like an inconvenient accessory. The grand marble room, glowing under crystal chandeliers and filled with America’s most powerful elite and politicians, fell dead silent.

His mistress, Victoria Thorne, stood beside him in a custom silver designer gown, clutching a torn section of fabric near her hip.

“She pushed me on purpose!” Victoria sobbed, putting on a helpless act. “She ruined my expensive dress!”

“That’s a lie!” I shot back bitterly. “You bumped into a waiter and blamed me!”

Julian didn’t care to ask for the truth. He seized my hair and dragged me across the floor in front of hundreds of guests. Whispers broke out across the room, and several people raised their phones to record.

Get on your knees and apologize to Victoria right now!” Julian roared.

My scalp burned with searing pain. My palms scraped against the cold marble. I looked toward my in-laws for help, but my wealthy mother-in-law hurriedly looked away, while his father stared fixedly into his glass of whisky, pretending not to notice.

Victoria smirked triumphantly. “Say you’re sorry, Clara,” she whispered with a mockingly arrogant gaze.

I bit my lip, refusing to yield. Julian tightened his grip, gritting his teeth: “You’ve embarrassed me for the last time, Clara!”

Tears blurred my vision. For so long, I had endured his insults, his secret affairs, and his financial manipulation out of fear that leaving would destroy the top-tier business empire I helped him build. But lying on that cold floor, I finally realized that the multi-billion-dollar enterprise was just another chain holding me captive.

Then, a deep, commanding voice resonated from the main entrance:

Take your filthy hands off my daughter.

Julian froze, his hand locking in place.

A tall man in a dark overcoat stepped beneath the chandelier, flanked by two top California attorneys and the head of high-level security. His gray hair framing a icy glare, his eyes were locked onto Julian’s hand.

It was Harrison Montgomery — my powerful father, whom I hadn’t seen in twelve years.

Julian slowly let go, sheer disbelief in his eyes. Victoria turned pale. “Who… who is that?”

My father walked forward and pulled a wax-sealed envelope from his coat.

“I am the majority owner of this estate,” he said, his tone casual yet heavy with authority. “And as of 8:00 AM this morning, I am the controlling investor in the nation’s premier business empire — the very one your family boasts about owning.”

Julian stared at him, his voice trembling: “That’s… that’s impossible!”

My father gently handed the envelope to me. Inside were corporate transfer documents bearing my name: Clara Montgomery.

He turned back to Julian with ultimate disdain: “You just assaulted the woman who now owns your entire legacy and fortune.”

Gasps and shocked whispers echoed across the ballroom. Julian stood petrified, the color completely drained from his face.

Yet, just as my father-in-law rushed forward to plead, my father let out a faint, dark smirk and dropped another bomb onto the crowd:

“And Julian… did you really think the woman beside you was just a ‘mistress’ you happened to meet? Why don’t you ask her who actually bought that silver gown, and where the $50 million recently wired from the company’s off-shore account went?”

Victoria’s eyes widened in sheer panic; she stumbled back a step, looking completely mortified. Julian whirled around to look at Victoria, then back at my father in utter horror.

My father took my hand, helped me up, and said softly:

“Let’s go, sweetheart. The real game… has just begun.”
