🚨 LACI PETERSON’S MOTHER RESPONDS TO SCOTT PETERSON’S NEW EVIDENCE CLAIMS… WITH JUST FIVE WORDS

“There is no new evidence,” says Rocha about a recent legal filing arguing that Peterson was wrongly convicted of murder.

Sharon Rocha has grown used to hearing claims that new evidence has been discovered that could overturn the guilty verdict of her former son-in-law, Scott Peterson, who was convicted of killing her daughter Laci and their unborn son in 2002.

“There is no new evidence,” Rocha says.

In April, San Mateo County Superior Court Judge Elizabeth Hill denied Peterson’s latest petition, filed on his behalf by the Los Angeles Innocence Project (LAIP), to overturn his conviction. It introduced 14 new evidentiary claims, including sworn statements, eyewitness accounts, scientific research and alternative theories about what happened in the murders of Laci and the couple’s unborn son on Christmas Eve in 2002. The petition by the legal rights group — which will be appealed to a higher California court — left Laci’s mother dumbfounded and did little to shake her conviction that Peterson was guilty of the murders.

“We constantly hear that they have new evidence,” Rocha — who declined to comment on the judge’s ruling and an upcoming documentary on the LAIP’s claims — told PEOPLE in 2024. “Twelve people found him guilty of murder, but he doesn’t admit to that.”

Now, as his lawyers draft their appeal, a new documentary, Scott Peterson: The New Evidence, premiering July 16 and 17 on A&E, disputes the judge’s ruling. “This documentary is built around the idea of stress-testing the Los Angeles Innocence Project’s findings,” says host Chris Pixley, an Atlanta-based defense attorney and ABC News legal analyst.

The nearly three-hour project, which was produced independently of LAIP, features interviews with witnesses and experts and pursues unexplored tips that Pixley claims police and prosecutors ignored in their rush to convict Peterson. “This is new science and new evidence, and every time you drill down, you find more. It deserves an examination,” says Pixley.

For Rocha, however, the claims examined in the documentary are groundless — and tiring. “It’s the same thing we’ve heard in the courtroom before, and it just continues,” says Rocha, who argues that the LAIP should spend its resources on “somebody who may actually be” innocent. “It is never ending, and it’s like ripping the scab off a wound every time. All they’re looking for right now is to throw everything against the wall and hope that something sticks. Bottom line: He is guilty, and that’s it. Maybe I shouldn’t sound so harsh, but I’m tired. I’m very, very, very tired.”

Peterson, now 53, has spent half his life behind bars and has steadfastly maintained his innocence. Last year, he was savagely attacked by another inmate at California’s Mule Creek State Prison. Laci’s tragic murder on Christmas Eve in 2002 riveted the nation after it was discovered that Scott was having an affair with a woman to whom he had claimed he was a widower marking his first holiday season on his own.

“I miss her being here,” says Rocha. “She was not only my daughter, she was my friend. For him to have done this to her… The lies, the deceit. It breaks my heart for her.”
