A man has died and a woman is being transported to hospital after a tree fell onto a car at Mount Buller on Monday morning.

A man has died after a tree fell onto a car at Mount Buller on Monday morning.

Emergency services responded to the incident after the car travelling along Mount Buller Rd was hit by the tree about 9.15am.

Police confirmed the male passenger, who is yet to be formally identified, died at the scene and the female driver was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Police are continuing to establish the circumstances and an investigation is ongoing.

An Ambulance Victoria spokeswoman said Advanced Life Support paramedics attended the scene and one person was transported by road ambulance to Wangaratta Hospital in a serious condition with an upper body injury.
