Young man stabbed to death in Gosford on NSW Central Coast
New details have emerged about what sparked an alleged fatal stabbing on the NSW Central Coast as a teenage boy faces a murder charge.
Zane Robson, 22, had just stepped off a bus on Mann St in Gosford when he became involved in a fight with a teenage boy about 7.30pm on Tuesday. Police allege the altercation was “over a hat”.
Officers allege Robson was stabbed in the chest and abdomen with a knife believed to have a 15cm blade.
Paramedics treated him at the scene before he was rushed to Gosford Hospital, where he later died.
Following investigations, police arrested a 15-year-old boy and a 45-year-old woman at a home in Lake Haven, about 40 minutes north of Gosford, early on Saturday morning.
Police allege the boy was known to Robson.
He has since been charged with murder.
He was refused bail and faced a Children’s Bail Court on Saturday.
The woman, believed to be the boy’s mother, has been charged with hindering the apprehension of a person who committed a serious offence.
She appeared before Bail Division Court 6 on Saturday.
The woman’s lawyer Javid Faiz told the court police broke down the front door of the home and found the 15-year-old hiding under a bed.
Faiz said his client did not know there was a warrant for her son’s arrest and would contest the charge.
He also told the court the woman cared for a child and had only recently secured stable accommodation after experiencing homelessness.
She was granted bail on the condition she report to police weekly and have no contact with her son.
She is due back in court on August 11.
Faiz also said the alleged altercation that led to the fatal stabbing was sparked by an argument over a hat.
“Police say that it is not a gang-related type but rather that it is something that has occurred over a hat,” Faiz told the court.
Robson’s family has been left devastated by the loss of “a much-loved son, grandson, brother, brother-in-law, uncle and friend”, according to a GoFundMe page set up to support them.
“At just 22 years old, his life was taken far too soon in a senseless act of knife violence in Gosford,” the fundraiser said.
“No family is ever prepared for a loss like this.”
The family remembered Robson as a “bubbly, happy, and inquisitive child” who loved motorbikes and following his siblings around.
“While Zane had his own personal struggles in life he was a remarkably kind person who always showed deep love, empathy, and compassion toward his parents, big brothers, little sister, family and friends,” the tribute said.
It said he “would have gladly helped anyone in need, and always said ‘I love you’ at the end of a phone call”.
“He will be missed more than words can say.”
