On Wednesday, June 3, the Fairfield Police Department responded to an incident in the parking lot of Fairfield High School at 7:15 p.m. local time, officer Michelle Belyea said at a news conference, per the Los Angeles Times.

While one of the shooting victims was pronounced dead, three others were transported to the hospital, per the Los Angeles Times and KTVU Fox2.

It’s currently unclear what condition the injured victims are in.

Authorities said the ages of the wounded individuals were 11, 20 and 25 years old, while the victim who died was 18, KTVU and CBS News reported.

The incident occurred at the end of a graduation ceremony at Sem Yeto High School, which was being held at Fairfield High School, per CBS News and KTVU.

“It’s a very scary incident when something like this does happen, especially during the end of a school event,” Belyea said in the news conference, per the Los Angeles Times. “So, obviously, we just want everyone to be safe.”

Despite no arrests being made, police officials have said the community does not face any ongoing threat, per KTVU.

“We went to go to the person that takes pictures of the graduates,” Jacob, a witness, told the outlet.

“Out of nowhere, some dude ran up, and when I looked up, he pointed the gun and started shooting. I backed up, he ran and I just went around, and my mom was back in the stadium, so I went to make sure she was OK.”

“I don’t know what happened. I’m coming to the parking lot when I hear the shots,” another witness, Lizette Ramirez, added to KTVU. “I see my niece, my mom, and she say, ‘Run! run!’ “

Sem Yeto is a continuation high school, per KTVU and CBS News. The school shares a physical campus with Fairfield High, CBS News reported.
