Officials responded to an apparent murder-suicide at the Brown Bear Childcare in Hopkins, Minnesota, just outside of Minneapolis, around 9am on Wednesday.
A parent dropping off their kids witnessed the incident unfold and called 911 afterward, saying he walked toward the back of the house and heard “the sound of children screaming,” according to Fox affiliate KMSP.
The witness went into the home through the back door and saw a man, armed with a screwdriver, on top of a woman.
The witness said the man was “actively stabbing” the woman beneath him and said he stabbed his daughter as well.

The parent grabbed his two children and two more kids who were inside the daycare.
When authorities arrived, they found Kristen Brown, 41, and seven-year-old daughter, Evie, dead on the kitchen floor, according to the Associated Press.
Nathan Brown, 41, was then found dead inside the closet on the upper floor of the home with an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.
A screwdriver was recovered at the scene.
The father who called 911 told police he got a newsletter from the daycare owner, Kristen, roughly two weeks before the incident, saying she was closing the daycare due to relationship issues with Nathan.
Officials said on Wednesday that they believe Nathan killed a 78-year-old relative at her home in Burnsville, located roughly 20 miles away from Hopkins.
Police believe he may have been recently living with the victim, according to the AP.
The woman’s identity has yet to be revealed and officials have not said what her relation was to Nathan.

The search warrant executed by local officials sought to collect evidence from the in-home daycare, including home security cameras, handwritten notes, electronic devices, firearms, bullets and the screwdriver.
