A 47-year-old woman, who had only started working at the store that day, was shot multiple times in the torso.

But she was not the alleged intended target.

NSW Police Detective Superintendent Jason Box said on Friday the alleged gunmen opened fire at three men seated inside the store.

An alleged underworld figure was believed to be the intended target.

In the restaurant CCTV footage, the man can be seen shielding himself with a chair as the gunmen moved in.

He was shot in the shoulder and arm, while his 25-year-old associate was shot in the face.

Police said all three victims have since been released from hospital, but the woman and the 25-year-old man are expected to suffer long-term complications from their injuries.

The two alleged gunmen left in a dark blue Audi Q7 bearing cloned numberplates.

Box said they later used another three stolen vehicles, all of which were subsequently set alight.

The arrested man is expected to be charged with three counts of shooting with intent to murder, as well as multiple offences relating to a firearm, ammunition and stolen vehicles.

Box said police had also identified the second alleged gunman, saying he left Australia for Thailand on June 25 last year.

Police were later told he died in a motor vehicle crash on July 23 in the same year while meeting another person believed to have links to organised crime.

Box described the kebab shop shooting as “graphic and violent” and said it was “amazing” no one was killed.

“This one in particular was concerning,” he said.

“It was midday, in a built-up area, in a store that the public attends. They’ve run straight in with the intent and purpose of shooting these three males.

“And unfortunately, an innocent bystander who was just working at the store on her first day there was shot multiple times and has got life-changing injuries that will impact her forever.”

Box said the intended target had survived multiple previous attempts on his life.

The victim was also the intended target of a deadly shooting while sitting in the back of a car in Granville just a month before the Auburn attack.

Two others in the front of the car were hit, with one dying in hospital a few days later.

The man also narrowly escaped a shooting in Brighton-Le-Sands in February 2025.
